clacking teeth

Today was an interesting day, to say the least.

Woke up at 5 am, pack stuff up, head out to Albertson’s to meet friend. Get into his car and head off to Red Rock. Normal climbing day, has happened dozens of times, no irregularities.

We get onto the loop (the one way 13 mile scenic drive that connects all the canyon entrances) and get to Willow Springs, turn left towards Icebox Canyon, and then it happens.

Bushes and dirt fly up the right side of the vehicle as my friend corrects the path, but just a bit too much. The car tips onto the left side and then immediately flips onto the roof, sliding about 30 feet and spinning in all directions before coming to a halt in the middle of the road (worth noting because of the fact that both sides of the road slope downward).

I unbuckle my seatbelt, falling to the floor (which was the most painful part of it all, might I add) and see how to get out of the car. His door has opened and we both crawl out through there.

My very first car accident has happened and it was not nearly as scary as I thought it would be. In fact, it was quite exciting and felt much like a roller coaster. Except roller coasters don’t usually end with a shattered vehicle and police citations.
